A GROUP of schoolchildren in training for the Ten Tors challenge were rescued from Dartmoor on Sunday. The ten 13-year-olds from Ridgeway School at Plympton were located within two hours of being reported in trouble near the top of Tavy Cleave by members of the Tavistock branch of the Dartmoor Rescue Group. They were wet, cold and dispirited but not injured. The group was heading for Dinger Tor and Lynch Tor near Okehampton but found the River Tavy was too high for them to cross: 'They were probably tired and a little bit disorientated so at that time decided to crash out,' said branch controller Bud Francis. 'Their minders tried to contact them having spoke to them on a mobile phone earlier but could not locate them so we were called.' Twenty-five members of the branch and one dog team were involved in the search.
