CHILDREN's voices will fill Tavistock Parish Church this coming Sunday, as seven of the town's schools join together for their annual Songs of Praise.
The service, held on Education Sunday, is the only opportunity in the year for the schools of Tavistock to sing with each other. As well as singing songs in common, each school will showcase a hymn or song of their choice. Like the television 'Songs of Praise', a member of each school will say why their song has been chosen.
The participating schools are Tavistock Primary School, Tavistock College, St Peter's School, St Rumon's School, Kelly College, Kelly Prep and Mount House. They will be joined by the parish church choir.
This year, the theme for Education Sunday is the environment that God has created.
The Rev Michael Brierley, priest-in-charge of Tavistock and Gulworthy, said: 'In Tavistock, we're especially aware of the beauty of our natural surroundings. Our challenge is to cherish them as God's gift, not just to ourselves but also to the future.
'I'm especially looking forward to the contribution from Tavistock College Gospel Choir.'
A 'thought for the day' will be given at the service by assistant curate the Reverend Tim Treanor.
The service begins at 6 pm. All are extremely welcome to attend.
