CHILDREN have been flocking to Okehampton Library to sign up to the Space Chase, a summer reading challenge to encourage children to read for pleasure.

The challenge, the UK’s biggest annual reading promotion for children aged four to 11, is being organised by literacy charity The Reading Agency.

Launched on Saturday, July 13 in time for the summer holidays, it has been named in honour of the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing.

Children are being set the challenge of reading at least six library books of their choice, with the incentive of collecting special stickers and other goodies along the way.

On completion at Okehampton Library they will be presented with a certificate, a medal and a free ticket for entry to the Milky Way Adventure Park at Clovelly.

The Space Chase reading challenge runs until Saturday, September 7. Just call in at Okehampton Library to sign up.
