Friendly
Exeter Chiefs U16s 38
Tavistock U16s 0
PRIOR to their first league match next weekend Tavistock played a valuable friendly away to Exeter Chiefs who were clearly far better prepared for the season and more coordinated as a team.
Tavistock struggled to get any useful territory for most of the first half and conceded four tries in the half. It was only towards the end of the half that Tavistock were able to apply any pressure as Dan Oner made ground towards the Chiefs' 22m line.
Despite being a little isolated the momentum was maintained and Tavistock drove close to the try line from a lineout but were held up within inches of scoring. As the ball was recycled infield Tavistock were awarded a penalty in a promising position but the opportunity was wasted and Chiefs eventually cleared.
Tavistock continued their improvement in the second half and play became more balanced as the visitors settled.
Tavistock looked threatening on occasions but missed their best opportunity to score as a well placed cross kick from new to the team Rowan Perry just missed being grounded by Josh Stephens on the wing.
The home side took their opportunities well however to run in two further tries.
As the match drew to a close Tavistock were again unlucky not to get points on the board as a break down the wing by Mark Friend was stopped just short of the line. Friend off- loaded in the tackle but narrowly missed the hands of Niall Murphy in support with the try line at his disposal.
