THE deputy mayor of West Devon, Christine Marsh, and deputy mayor of Tavistock John Sheldon wereamong many guests who attended the CHICKS open day at the Moorland Retreat in Brentor recently.
Guests were invited to take a tour of the retreat, which stretches over several acres of land and includes trampolines, a large farmhouse, games room, sports hall and disco room.
Stands gave detailed information about the charity and how people could get involved, and a tea party was held in the dining room where guests could enjoy tea and home-made cake and a chat with CHICKS staff.
West Devon Cllr Mandy Ewings said: 'What a fantastic day for CHICKS to be able to show the local community the great work that goes on at the Moorland Retreat.
'The staff and volunteers gave so much attention and enthusiasm to their visitors that they hopefully gained some new volunteers and supporters. Even the Devon weather complied as it was a beautiful September day guests were able to sit outside and enjoy a drink and piece of cake.'
CHICKS head of fundraising and communications Tim Bunting said: 'It was a lovely day and a wonderful opportunity to spread some awareness about who we are and what we do.
'Guests were encouraged to walk around the retreat and to see for themselves the colourful, positive environment we have created for the children who stay here.'
