A MARY Tavy woman, who was planning to keep chickens as part of her therapy after having cancer, has had her brand new chicken house stolen.

Sue Anderson spent most of 2015 recovering from chemotherapy and was looking forward to her new project.

The one and a half metre square chicken house was stolen from her back garden in Mary Tavy on Thursday, March 3.

Sue’s daughter Beth said: ‘In December 2014 mum finished her chemo treatment. Ever since then she has been working very hard to get her strength back both mentally and physically.

‘The chicken house was all part of her therapy and process of her getting her life back on track. My mum has dedicated her life to others, going above and beyond what most would do.

‘She has been to hell and back and has not once complained or said “poor me” – she has got on with it and thrown herself into helping others.

‘She is absolutely devastated about these individuals that decided to come onto her property and take what wasn’t theirs to have. If we could raise enough money to replace her chicken house and get her back on track it would be amazing. It’s been a really tough year for Mum and this was the last thing she needed.’

Sue said she was angry by the theft and felt sick to her stomach that this had happened.

Sue had saved her for some time to buy the chicken house and had been working to clear the area of brambles around her new house so that the chickens could move in.

‘It was not a small house – it was solid and very heavy so must have taken four people to move it and they would have needed a large van or truck,’ she said.

Police have issued a description of the chicken house which was from the Patch and Acre store. It has no legs so sits flat on the ground and is shiplap tannalised timber. It is big enough to hold around 12 chickens and was visible from the road.

It is believed someone must have seen what happened. If you did or if you have any information at all call the police on 101 and quote the crime number CR/14442/16.

The crime happenend some time after 7pm on Wednesday, March 2 and before 11am on Friday, March 4.

Mrs Anderson is offering an reward for information that leads to the recovery of her hen house.

Beth has since set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for a new chicken house for her mum.
