FANTASTIC! was the overall verdict from last weekend?s ?Tavistock Real Cheese Fair? ? organised by Country Cheeses. People came in their hundreds to take part in the towns first ever cheese fair. They got to sample a wide variety of cheeses, see which wine goes with which cheese, and have the chance at winning prizes. Up for grabs was a night at Endsleigh, a meal at New Angel, lunch at Lewtrenchard Manor, learning to cook with Peter Gorton, learn from a top cheesemaker, a feast with Country Cheeses and the Nobody Inn, and an overnight stay at Combe Home Hotel near Honiton. Peter Gorton came to Country Cheeses last Tuesday to pull out winning tickets from the draw. The winner of the cookery class with Peter was R Lemon from Brentor. Elise Jungheim, from Country Cheeses, said: ?The fair was absolutely fabulous. The weekend really was beyond our wildest dreams. ?The local support was brilliant. There was no real pressure to buy, people could just enjoy and get to know the cheeses. The atmosphere was brilliant, everyone seemed to have a really good time.? This was the first year Country Cheeses have arranged this event and were encouraged by the positive comments and suggestions from those who came to look. After listening to what people had to say, Country Cheeses plan to hold this event next year with a few changes. Elise said: ?We asked people what their thoughts on the event were. Some commented they would have liked somewhere to sit with a glass of wine. We will take what they said on board for next year.?
