AN Okehampton man had a surprise birthday present this week ? from the brewers of his favourite tipple. Bill Norris, who is 80 this week, has always loved Wadworth?s 6X bitter, but when he moved to Okehampton seven years ago, resigned himself to enjoying his pint in cans from the supermarket, as he was unable to find his favourite beer in a local pub. Bill has even built himself a small bar at his home in Great Links Tor Road ? and this Tuesday was amazed to be paid a visit by a representative from Wadworths. The surprise was organised by Bill?s grandson Steve Woodman, who lives at Westbury. Steve said: ?When grandad lived in Chippenham he used to be able to get 6X all the time, but apparently he couldn?t find it in Okehampton. I got in contact with the brewery to see if they could do something for his birthday.? John Bennett, of Wadworths, said the brewery was delighted to be able to make Bill?s birthday an even more special day. He presented Bill with some bottles of 6X, some special glasses and some old prints ? and also gave him some very important news. ?I?ve told him the King?s Arms in Okehampton sells 6X ? so perhaps he?ll be able to pop along there for a pint!? he said.
