AN innovative new service has been helping to brighten up the festive period for Okehampton's elderly residents. Aalen House nursing home have launched a 'Christmas Cheer and Care,' scheme to help raise spirits among elderly people. Jan Hazell, registered manager at Aalen House, said: 'We are only too aware that at this busy time of year many families and carers would appreciate some additional help and support with loved ones in their care. 'Many elderly people live alone and can end up being very depressed and miserable over the festive period.' Temporary stays, Christmas meals and respite care are being provided by Aalen House as part of the service. Jan added: 'We all look forward to Christmas as a time to relax and enjoy some indulgences, as well as the company of family and friends. There is no reason why our elderly should not have the same.'
