Reckless driving outside Kelly College, Tavistock, on the A386 to Okehampton has led the police road safety officer to position mobile speed cameras in the area. Police say the main culprits are drivers of heavy goods vehicles who are regularly spotted travelling in excess of 50mph in the 30mph limit. Up to 600 pupils cross the road every day to gain access to the car park and playing fields, and concerns for their safety are growing. The decision comes shortly after a local police safety officer asked for a mobile speed detection unit to be placed at Horrabridge following a series of serious collisions along the Plymouth Road.
