Cornwood U13s v Whitchurch U13s

WHITCHURCH continued their impressive league form with a 60 run victory over Cornwood Oaks.

Whitchurch won the toss and decided to bat, and enjoyed a steady start from Josh Towl and Ryan Alford before Alford was bowled by Elliott.

Towl was joined by Billy Barriball, who hit a quick 15 before being bowled by a good ball from Elliott. In came Billy's younger brother Charlie, who with Josh Towl, put together a good stand of 29 — Charlie hitting to leg particularly well. Towl was then bowled by Sargent. With Charlie Barriball going well, Barney Megicks kept him company, and together put on a stand of 62 runs, with Charlie completing a splendid 50, finishing on 65 not out and Megicks on 17 not out. This gave Whitchurch a total of 135-3.

Cornwood's batting started slowly, with good spells of bowling from Christian Hodge's (4-0-14-1), and Dominick Monger (4-1-16-0). They kept scoring opportunities to a minimum, with only M Maller with some exquisitely timed straight drives in his total of 25, causing Whitchurch any problems.

When he departed, Cornwood seemed to lose heart, and Charlie and Billy Barriball took five wickets betweem them, enabling Dan Towl to come on and finish off the tail with 3-14 in three overs.

This gave victory for Whitchurch by 60 runs and the U13s side's eighth win in a row.

There was good fielding by Ben Hodge and Dan Towl and Barney Megicks behind the stumps.
