OKEHAMPTON resident and fundraiser Michael Bendix has been back on his bike for a mammoth cycle challenge. Along with his son-in-law Warren, Michael cycled 1,000 miles from Land's End to John O'Groats to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. The duo arrived at John O'Groats as planned on Saturday, April 19, at around 4.45pm. Early estimates make Michael's fundraising total around £1,000. Michael said: 'The trip for myself was, at 70 years old, quite hard work but once on the road in the morning, it was head down and pedal. 'Warren, my son-in-law, had an easier time. We met interesting people and received many donations along the way. 'I have been amazed at the generosity of private and business people in Okehampton and the surrounding area. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everybody for their donations. 'It made the trip all the more worthwhile.'
