A TAVISTOCK charity was left feeling aggrieved after finding vandals had attacked its premises two days after a special event was held to raise money.

Friends of Tavistock Area Support Services held a one-off book and record sale last Saturday, raising more than £450 towards the local charity.

Volunteers under the leadership of Bryan Podmore worked relentlessly to make sure a quality number of books and records, many of which were collectors' items, were available for people to see and buy, said TASS manager Andy Lyle.

'After all their hard work raising much needed money for the charity, they were left feeling aggrieved as on opening on Monday morning one of the main panes of glass housing Shopmobility had been destroyed by mindless vandalism, leaving the charity facing a large bill to replace it.'

Mr Lyle added they celebrated the excellent result of the sale on Saturday, only to find that the money raised will now have to go towards the replacement of this smashed window.

'We are a small local charity making a difference to older and disabled people living in Tavistock and outlying areas and this sort of vandalism affects our finances in a big way,' he said.
