A PUB landlord from Spreyton has gone 'au naturel' after having his 'tash' shaved off to help raise money for charity.

Landlord of The Tom Cobley Inn Roger Cudlip went under the clippers at a disco held at Spreyton Village Hall on Friday, January 29.

The event raised £1,350 and was part of an effort by Cheriton and Tedburn Young Farmers' Club to raise money for Country Holidays for Inner City Children (CHICKS).

Mr Cudlip's moustache was shaved off by Wendy Sincock from Spreyton, who won three gold and two silver medals at the 2009 British Transplant Games.

Mr Cudlip said: 'It was actually OK and all done in good humour.

'They had me sat in a chair with everybody watching and it was quite funny.

'It does feel different and I can feel the cold a lot more now.

'Some people say I look younger and some say I look better, but it's been 48 years so it will take some time to get used to.

'I may not even grow it back, so we will just have to wait and see.'

Cheriton and Tedburn YFC handed over cheques at Cheriton Bishop Village Hall on Tuesday evening to Devon Air Ambulance (£585.96); CHICKS (£2,535) and Exeter Kidney Unit (£200) after another sucessful year's fund raising.

In total £3320.96 was collected.

Chairperson and secretary of the club, Gemma Bowden and Chris Berry, said: 'It is great to see the local communities come together and contribute so generously over the year.

'We are an active club that not only hold fund raisers but also bring young people from rural areas together providing a wide range of activities, complementing individual interest and personal development.

'We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported us in raising so much for such deserving causes; from the people contributing to our annual promise auction in May, to the residents in the local areas who bought our fine manure in February.'

Proceeds from this year's fundraising by the YFC are going to the FORCE cancer charity, based in Exeter, which helped a fellow young farmer and friend during his short battle with cancer before Christmas.

Fund raising is well under way with £200 already raised from a coffee morning recently held.
