A FAMILY is hosting its third annual fundraising event tomorrow (Friday) in memory of a young sibling who died at only four months old in 2013.
The Oakley family have undertaken fundraising events for the past three years, supporting a different charity each time. This time the family will be running and cycling laps around Burrator Reservoir, with the event dubbed ‘Indi Day 3’.
Alison Oakley said: ‘We do an event as a family around this time every year, supporting a different charity each time. It is in memory of our little boy Indiana who we lost at just four months old in 2013. We like to keep his memory alive by creating something positive at a time which we still find very hard.
‘This is our third year. The first was a sponsored run around Burrator Reservoir, achieved by our son, who was eight years old at the time, among other things carried out by our family. We raised over £700 for Devon Air Ambulance.
‘Last April we did a school talent show with magic, refreshments and raffle. We raised £1,000 for Gulworthy and Lamerton schools.
‘As it is our third year, we have kept the three theme going. Our son Dante, 11, is going to run three laps of Burrator Reservoir, totalling 12 miles. Our son Vincent, 7, is going to run and cycle the three laps and our daughter Wenzday, 10, is going to cycle the three laps, along with my husband Steve. I shall be at the start/finish line with a cake stall. Anyone who would like to sponsor or support us would be appreciated.’
Alison said alongside the fundraising events, the family is hoping to produce a children’s book to sell, with the proceeds going to the family’s chosen charity this year — Parkinson’s UK. Steve has written the short story and the children have illustrated it. They are currently trying to get it printed and published.
