THE Okehampton Community Archive (OCA) is the latest organisation in the town to benefit from the generosity of the Okehampton United Charity.
The charity clerk Karen Percival recently presented the archive group with a cheque for £1,000. The group is working to record and preserve the social history of Okehampton since 1900, and film present events like the carnival, Edwardian Evening and other civic events for future records.
The donation will help the OCA's running costs. The group regularly holds coffee mornings when photos and articles are displayed. Their next coffee morning is on Saturday, December 6 in the Charter Hall.
In recent weeks the OCA has been involved with other groups to remember the start of the First World War.
In conjunction with the town council, the group displayed the names of the people of Okehampton who died during the Great War in the town council chamber over the remembrance weekend.
