THERE may be a bidding war this weekend in the name of charity as local artists' work is put up for auction.

The charity art auction is being held at Browns Hotel in Tavistock this Sunday (September 12), and is the third major fundraising event that organiser Jason Brooker has held to raise funds to set up a trust in his partner's name.

The Judy Dawson Charitable Trust aims to support people with undiagnosed illnesses, and also to support research into the effects of radiotherapy.

Jason said: 'I am setting up this trust to create a lasting tribute to my dear fiancee Judy, who died suddenly in November 2008, and to help people who are suffering with similar problems to those she suffered with for much of her life.'

Earlier this year Jason successfully climbed Mount Kilimanjaro with two work colleagues, and raised more than £3,000, but he still needs at least another £4,000.

He said: 'I hope this auction will move us closer to this total, but we are of course reliant on lots of people showing up on the day to bid for the fantastic art on offer.'

Tickets for the auction cost £10 per person, and this will include a glass of champagne and some canapés. The tickets will enable people to bid in the auction, and the price of the ticket can be redeemed against any purchase made. The art on offer will range from photographs and prints starting around £20, to original oils and water-colours starting at around £100.

Jason said: 'I've been really pleased by the generosity of all the artists that have contributed. Many, such as Dave Mather, Laura Wall and Maria Croft are Tavistock locals, but there are also artists like Jane Leitch and John Ashton who have contributed. It promises to be an interesting event.'

Tickets can be bought from Browns Hotel on the day or in advance, or directly from Jason by calling 07919445267 or emailing him at [email protected]">[email protected]
