Whitchurch Wayfarers v Kenn

WHITCHURCH lost the toss and were invited to bat. They made a bright start before losing three quick wickets with the score in the thirties. Chappell found an ally in Barriball and together they added 61 for the 4th wicket in 10 overs, before Barriball was caught in the deep off Simpson (3-51) for 37.

Chappell continued to lead the way, passing 50 and in partnership with Newton (31) added 55 for the 5th wicket. He was eventually out for 80 to Fowler (2-18) as Whitchurch looked set to post a commanding total.

Gosling with 4-34 saw that did not happen, bowling Whitchurch out for 187 off the penultimate ball of their innings.

In reply, Kenn were soon in trouble. Fine spells of bowling from Lavis and MacDougall (4-28) reduced the visitors to 46 for 6, a position they were unlikely to recover from.

Fowler made 39 in the rearguard action as Kenn dug in for a draw with more than half their overs remaining.

Whitchurch, however, found wickets hard to come by. Gosling (20no) and Chislett (23no) kept the bowlers at bay, seeing out the last 12 overs and taking their side to 136 for 8 at the close.

Whitchurch, 14 points, drew with Kenn, 10 points.

This week Whitchurch are home to Dawlish.
