A TEN year-old girl and her friend have just completed a challenge of swimming the distance of the English Channel for charity. Charlotte Mellor from Tavistock decided to accept the challenge of swimming 1,408 lengths of Meadowlands Swimming Pool with her friend Rebecca Windemer, 12, to raise money for ASPIRE. They started in October and finished on December 3 after swimming four times a week and even during public sessions. Claire Mellor, Charlotte?s mother, said: ?Charlotte was very pleased when she had completed this challenge. She enjoys swimming so much, it was nice for her to put something back into it.? Charlotte has been swimming since she was three years old and both she and Rebecca are members of Tavistock Swimming Club. They raised approximately £130 from sponsorship and collections for the charity, which works with people who have spinal cord injuries to create opportunity, choice and independence.
