IT'S all change at Callington Town Council, with Vernon Anderson taking over as town clerk from Lynda Small, who has been in post for just over five years.

Mr Anderson comes to Callington from Devizes Town Council in Wiltshire where he was administration and finances manager. He said he felt privileged to get the job and was impressed by the community spirit of the whole town and the council.

During her time as town clerk, Lynda has secured more than £200,000 in grant money for the area. Callington portreeve Rick Lumley said she had made a tremendous difference to Callington in a relatively short space of time.

'I would like to thank her for her services to the town council,' he said. 'Lynda is someone who does not know the meaning of the words impossible task, lunch break and No.'

Mr Lumley said he wished Lynda every happiness in her retirement and was very pleased to welcome Mr Anderson to the town.

'Having worked in local government he can bring a wide variety of experience to the role and assist with continuing to move Callington forward within the challenge of the new unitary authority,' he said.

Lynda said: 'I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with the town. Callington is so lucky to have a young and proactive council who voluntarily give up so much of their time in the best interests of the town.

'The job requires so many different skills and there is always something happening, there is never a dull day.'
