IT was all change for the Friends of Tavistock Library last week when the chairperson handed over her position to a fellow member. Edna Bailey took over as chairperson at the library?s recent annual meeting, from Wendy Bloom, a founder member of the friends. The group was founded in 2002 to help raise money for the library in order for special events to be held or to buy necessary equipment for the building. The friends also organise two yearly events at the library and hold a Friday coffee morning for 51 weeks of the year. On the stall they sell books plants, cakes and even supply coffee and teas for just 40p. Beryl Weeks, a founder member, even makes toys of all varieties from scratch with knitted wool to sell on stall. Every penny raised goes to the library. But to help keep the friends? events running, the group, which meets six times a year, is looking for more friends to help as ?backstage crew? at many of the events run in the library. For more information on becoming a friend visit the coffee mornings held in the foyer of the library between 9.30am and noon, or ask a member of staff.
