ROTARIANS in the Yelverton Club have elected two new top officers.
Taking over as president is Terry Donnell, who is retired, lives in Tavistock is married and has two daughters.
He has worked in electronics for 50 years, 20 years in industry, including several years in Vancouver, Canada.
Formerly a senior lecturer at Plymouth University, he lectured and researched in digital recording technologies.
Among Terry's hobbies is music — he played piano for the Raymond Hale Singers for many years.
During the past year Terry has initiated and successfully organised fundraising for Yelverton Rotary Club to be involved with an international project for a clean water borewell to be sunk and commissioned in the area of Ambujwadi, India.
This now provides a supply of clean water for more than 100 families.
Prior to the well being sunk there was an acute shortage of potable water which had to be carried 2km. This resulted in frequent sickness and distress, particularly among children.
Work on the well began after a cheque for the full amount was presented to the organisation responsible for overseeing the project: the El Shaddai Charitable Trust and the well was completed in January this year.
Terry is supported in the year ahead with newly elected vice-president Marion Luckhurst, who lives in Yelverton.
