ONE of Britain?s leading gardens at Buckland Monachorum has launched its annual search for an ambitious young gardener wanting to take their first steps into a horticultural career.
The Garden House, described by gardening guru Alan Titchmarsh as ?a living, breathing national treasure? is offering a scholarship to someone with basic horticultural qualifications to work at the site for a year, under the guidance of head gardener Matt Bishop.
The scholarship was made possible by a bequest from the late Dorothy Harris, from Plymouth, in memory of her parents William and Helena Heath.
Through her will Mrs Harris wanted to benefit horticulture and the environment in general and young Westcountry people in particular.
Matt Bishop said: ?The intention is that the scholar will have the benefit of a year?s hands-on practical experience at a major botanical garden with an international reputation, which will look great on their CV and arm them with exactly the knowledge and experience they need to start their career.?
Application packs will be available to people under 35 with a basic qualification in horticulture, giving preference to those whose home is in the Westcountry or who have links with the region. Contact 01822 854769 for further information.
