OKEHAMPTON and District Chamber of Trade recently paid tribute to a distinguished member who until his recent retirement ran the oldest family-owned business in the town. The chamber presented their president, William Cornish, and his wife, Una, with a wooden bench to mark their recent retirement from owning and running W J Cornish and Son jewellers in Fore Street. The presentation was made at a social evening on Saturday when members and guests of the chamber met to enjoy an Indian meal at the Biryani Junction at Dartmoor Railway. Mr Cornish has been a very active member of the chamber for many years, serving as a committee member as well as in the role of president. He follows in his father?s footsteps, who was chairman and committee member of the chamber for many years.
