THE outgoing chairman of Okehampton and district Chamber of Trade thanked members, and especially those on the committee, for all their help and hard work over the years. Richard Appleby, who has been the chair for the past two years, told members at their annual meeting at the Plume of Feathers in Okehampton last month, that being chairman had been a great experience and he had tried to publicise the chamber in his time. In his report he added that membership was definitely too small and the chamber needed to make a 'stronger bond' with traders in the town. Mr Appleby said that 'as usual' the hanging baskets and Christmas trees and lights were hugely successful. Ian Bailey, the owner of Ink Print in Station Road, was elected as the new chairman. Both Mr Bailey and re-elected president William Cornish thanked Mr Appleby for all his hard work as chairman. Allenton Fischer has been elected vice-chairman. l The chamber of trade is inviting potential members to come along to a special curry night at the Plume of Feathers Hotel in Okehampton on Thursday, February 15. The event, which starts at 7.30pm, is a chance to meet current members, hear what the chamber proposes for the future and see if people would like to join this important organisation. If you would like to go along, contact the chamber's Janet Gee on 01837 54481 by Saturday February 10.
