MARTIN Thornton, a member of the North Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team, the Okehampton section of the Dartmoor Rescue Group, was presented with a BT Chairman's Award at a ceremony in London.

The award is in recognition of Martin's contribution as a member of the NDSRT.

The award was presented by BT chairman Sir Michael Rake at the BT Tower in London, which was opened specially for the ceremony.

As part of the award, Martin was also presented with a cheque for £500 for the NDSRT.

Paul Vachon, the controller of NDSRT, told the Times: 'It's a great honour for one of our members to be recognised this way.

'Martin's enthusiasm and contribution has been exceptional throughout his training and promotion to full member of the team. This also highlights the support we get from our members employers and colleagues. We could not operate without them.'

So far this year the team has had 11 call-outs, assisting 36 people on Dartmoor and surrounding areas.
