Chagford 15 Marldon 1 THE first round of the South Devon Herald Cup often sees shock results as teams from the lower divisions take on teams from above and division 6 Marldon FC were hoping to be giant killers as they travelled onto the Moor to play Premier team Chagford. Chagford had other ideas and had the perfect start when Andrew Davis scored after only three minutes. But any thoughts Chagford had that they could relax were dashed only four minutes later when Marldon?s Gary Baker picked the ball up 25 yards out from Chagford?s goal, turned and shot past keeper Chris Woof to level the scores. Despite the goals that were to follow this was the best of the day. Chagford were not put off their game by this equaliser and continued to move the ball round and use the spaces they found all round the pitch. Warwick Botham did not take long to re-establish Chagford?s lead and then Andrew Davis added his second - 3-1 after only ten minutes. Goals came at steady intervals for Chagford and by half-time they had increased their lead to 8-1 with goals from Euan Stone, Rob Lethbridge, Mark Williams, Dale Chadwick and another from Andrew Davis, completing his hat-trick. The second half carried on where the first left off when half time substitute Joe Whatley scored within two minutes of the restart. Other goals came from Dale Chadwick, Ralph, Whatley got his second, Mark Williams got two more to complete his hat-trick and Chris Woof came out of goal for the last 15 minutes and completed the scoring with five minutes to go. Marldon must be congratulated for never giving up and playing with great spirit.
