Totnes and Dartington SC Reserves 5

Chagford 1

CHAGFORD'S management had every right to be bitterly disappointed with this result, as Totnes and Dartington were languishing at the bottom of the division. Despite leading, through a Jerome Whatley goal, many of the Chagford team appeared to switch off and they struggled for the rest of the match. Goals from Jamie Newton (2), John Cummins, Darren Fisher.

l This week Chagford travel to the Devon and Exeter League premier leaders, Topsham Town, in the DCFA Premier Cup. Kick-off 2pm.

THE opening ten minutes of this match were played cagily. Chagford's breakthrough came on 15 minutes with Carry chasing the ball down to the corner flag, working it to Reeves who cut it back to Jon Philpott, the midfielder slamming the ball home.

From there the home side took control, only superb work from Brent's 'keeper preventing his side from going further behind.

Twice Reeves was denied, as was Scarry when sent through.

Chagford started the second half in control and within five minutes they doubled their lead. Brent's 'keeper punched away a corner, the ball falling nicely for Philpott to volley it into the top corner from distance.

On 65 minutes South Brent were awarded a corner and from the cross, Simon Wardell powered home an unstoppable header.

This gave the visitors extra impetus but a rejigged Chagford defence and Matt Swift behind them held firm. With ten minutes remaining in a classic counter-attack, Chagford's Harvey played the ball to Scarry who beat two defenders and curled in his shot from the edge of the box; the ball hit a post but fell kindly for Vince Reeves to power it home.

Within minutes, Jamie Forsey tackled his man superbly, carried the ball out of defence and then released it to Jon Scarry who slipped it past the 'keeper for a well deserved goal.
