Barnstaple and Pilton firsts
v Chagford firsts
FOR the second week running the Chagford attack was subjected to a century opening partnership this time by Barnstaple pair Mike Paine and G McEndoo, this time it being 193 in quick time.
It was not until Neal Rowlands and Sizmur were introduced to the attack that the run rate was restrained at a time it looked as though a score in excess of 300 was likely on this perfect batting pitch and fast outfield at Barnstaple.
Sizmur accounted for both opening batsmen, Paine for 95 and McEndoo for 69. Rowlands claimed the next three wickets and Barnstaple finished on 231-5 in their 46 overs. Rowlands in his 13 overs had 3-49, and Sizmur 3-36 in seven overs.
In these conditions this was not a big score, but Mark Gribble soon went for 9 until Chris Filor and Gary Sizmur steadied the ship and took the score to 61, before Filor was bowled by Steve Moore for 9.
Del Lammonby soon followed and the Gary Sizmur was caught for an excellent 40. Colin Mortimore made a typically aggresive 31 and Rowlands 19 but it was left to Jerry Christophers, 25 not out, and Stuart Lord in a well controlled innings of 30no to take the score to 205-7 for a losing draw and nine points,
Chagford are third in the divison behind Brixham and Shobbrook.
Chagford skipper pronounced himself pleased with the fight back after such a bad start in both innings and paid tribute to the continuing performances of new players, father and son Steve and Gary Sizmur.

v Upottery
ROGER Whittingham and Richard Sampson continued their consistent form of the season.
The two enjoyed an opening partnership of 55 before Whittingham departed for 41, Sampson followed with the score at 86, with Paul Penberthy contributing a breezy 19 before skipper Simon Snell was run out for 2.
However this brought together Paul Ridgers and David Penberthy, who both with aggresive shots all round the wicket, quickly took the score from 133 to 206 when Ridgers was out for 72.
Penberthy soon followed for a deserved half century but the tail capitulated and the Innings ended at 241 all out with young Billy Searle on 12 not out. The star bowler for Upottery was Simon Bath with 5-62 in his 13 overs.
Upottery in reply lost wickets at regular intervals with only Pulman 10. Wyatt 27 and Rice with an intelligent 41 not out reaching double figures and the innings subsided to 111 all out.
The stars of the Chagford attack were veterans Ken Moss and Paul Wakefield with 6-25 and 3-47 respectively, to give the Chagford side victory by 130 runs and a further 20 points.
The Chagford second XI continued their winning sequence and are top of the table with 118 points with Upottery second on 84 points.
