South Devon League Premier Chagford 0 Brixham Villa 2 DESPITE a much improved performance, Chagford fell to two superb first half goals and failed to overtake their opponents. Both sides went out to secure a win from the off and an open game ensued. Villa appeared the physically stronger and their tactics at times drew dissent from onlookers and players alike. Once settled, Chagford played some cutting edge football but failed to apply the finishing touch when needed. Mark Williams and Christian Crowther- Smith were, possibly, the pick of the bunch but new 'keeper, Saul Scarry, made important stops to keep his team in the game. Even so, he could do little to prevent Rankin scoring twice for Brixham. The first, in the 26th minute, was a tremendous free-kick that edged its way in off a post. The second, 12 minutes later, a cutely executed lob following Chagford's failure to clear their lines. The second half introductions for the home team of Miller, Davis and James Williams kept up the momentum. Chagford largely took control but could not break through, despite hitting the frame of the goal twice and putting Villa's 'keeper to work. l Chagford meet Buckland Athletic Reserves in the Herald Cup semi-final this Sunday at Liverton United's ground, kick-off at 2pm. Chagford would welcome supporters to come along to cheer the team on.
