AT the recent annual dinner of the Chagford Cricket Club, president's wife Hilary Wreford presented the bowling award to Jerry Christophers and the batting award to Colin Mortimore.

Skipper Jerry, a former Devon Minor county player, excelled with the ball and but for the rain affected season would have surely broken the league record — producing several outstanding performances. Colin, the vice captain, held the batting together at times and finished with the second highest aggregate in the league.

Jerry said that all rounder Mark Gribble, another player with county experience, had joined the club and would be available on a regular basis.

The club has also entered the Newton Abbot and district 20/20 evening league which will bring additional competitive cricket against teams such as Bovey Tracey.

Club spokesman Mike Wreford said: 'With Saturday matches in the Devon League, Sunday matches in the Sunday League, the NAD 20/20 competition as well as friendly evening games and mid-week friendlies against touring sides, there is a full and attractive fixture list for 2009.'

There should also be the advantage of coaching from Peter Lever, the former Lancashire and England bowler, who was also the bowling coach to the England test team.
