CHAGFORD Cricket Club had been included in the prestigious The Wisden Cricket Calendar for 2010 featuring some of the UK's loveliest cricket grounds.

There were 12 grounds featured and photograped by Philip Wilcox who is a specialist cricket and sports photographer.

Philip told Mike Wreford, the Chagford CC president that he found out about the ground due to the two features in The Sunday Telegraph and also from his mother who was on holday in Devon but knows nothing about cricket, but heard about the ground and mentioned it to him.

The grounds featured were spread far and wide including, Yorkshire, Wales Somerset, Cornwall, Cumbria, Northumberland and Surrey so Philip must have travelled hundreds of miles.

Mike Wreford told the Times: 'It is quite nice that the hardwork put in by the people of Chagford is recognised in this way and of course during the winter months it is used for football with pitches either side of the square.'

l CHAGFORD Cricket Club will be holding its annual meeting at its club house Chagford tomorrow (Friday) followed by refreshments, and a 'get together.

The opportunity will also be taken to present the medals to the Devon League winning players.

Chagford will be playing in Division B of the Devon Cricket League this season, which for a place of its size is quite an achievement, and, in addition, for the first time it will have a second team in the league. With these regular Saturday fixtures, Sunday games, mid-week friendlies against touring sides, and once again entry in the strong Newton Abbot 20/20 evening competition there is a full and attractive fixture list.

The club welcomes new players of whatever ability and any one who is interested in joining please turn up at the annual meeting for a warm welcome or ring Mike Wreford on 01837 52932.
