Devon and Exeter division one

Barnstaple Town 1

Chagford 3

CHAGFORD made the best possible start to the new year in beating one of the promotion favourites on their own turf. Steve Scott gave the visitors an early lead as he fired home from 20 yards out, following some snappy inter-changes in the build up. From there, Chagford bossed the game and allowed a youthful home team precious little on the park.

When the hosts did get through, they found debutee 'keeper Scott Luscombe in safe and confident form. His defence responded in similar form and snuffed out much of Barnstaple's forward play.

It took few minutes of the second half for Steve Kinsey to double Chagford's lead. Following some more good passing, that is a feature of Chagford's game, Kinsey found himself free to simply tap home the ball confidently. Barnstaple's response was to press forward more but again they came up against a solid wall.

Robbie Miller finally opened his league account with a deft finish.

Barum did have the last word eventually, Pearce slotting home a late penalty for their consolation.
