Devon League division D Chagford v Bridestowe WITH more than three weeks off due to the appaling weather it was great for the players to finally get the second half of the season going on a sunny day at the fine looking Chagford ground. Bridestowe won the toss and decided to bowl and this initially appeared a good decision as scoring was hard due to tight bowling and fielding. Early contributions from P Joshi (31), J Coburn (17) and Rankin (23) helped to push the total along; but at 97-7 with 14 overs to go Bridestowe were clearly on top. However Hulse (24) and Jenkins (25) took on the challenge and pushed Chagford onto 150 for 8. Bridestowe?s bowling had been excellent ? C Lavis had match figures of 34-3, N Griffiths 33-2 and S Sizmur 26-2; there were also some spectacular catches taken. After tea Chagford skipper Owen decided to open with slower seam and spin and it immediatly paid off with Bridestowe struggling against the excellence of Joshi (21-5) and Jenkins (18-2). Only A Griffiths (19) and N Griffiths (27) showed any quality and when paceman Rankin (25-3) was bought into the attack, he quickly mopped up the tail end. Bridestowe ended up on 72 all out, a loss by 78 runs. Both teams remain near the top of Devon Division D along with other West Devon team Hatherleigh. l Chagford play a wide range of cricket with Saturday and Sunday League games and is also involved with midweek day and evening games.
