DARTMOOR visitor information network has come top in a recent survey of National Park information centres, with the High Moorland Visitor Centre at Princetown being the highest scoring National Park Visitor Centre in the country.
The centre won the award not simply for the quality of its displays, but for the ability and professionalism of the staff.
David Campkin, head of information services for DNPA, said visitors contributed ?significantly? to the rural economy and high quality information services played ?an important part in facilitating enjoyment and supporting many local businesses?.
?Centre staff are our greatest asset and they deserve this recognition for all the effort that they put in to helping and advising those that come to enjoy Dartmoor,? he said.
At present, a colourful celebration of both nature and technology can be enjoyed at the visitor centre.
Dartmoor-based artist David Lister has put together an exhibition entitled Taxonomy, using the visual representation of nature combined with digital and traditional media.
David said the initial concept came from the visual impact of the landscape experienced while walking on the moor, captured using digital and traditional photography.
The taxonomy of objects was later digitised and manipulated using computer technology.
?In my work, as in nature, objects aren?t always apparent at first glance. Many are camouflaged?, David said.
Taxonomy can be seen at the visitor centre until May 14.
David will be there in person on on Saturday, May 10 from 10.30am-1pm and 2-4pm.
