Central Devon MP Sir Mel Stride recently visited the Okehampton Branch of the Royal British Legion ahead of Remembrance Sunday.
Sir Mel dropped in to see the branch and to thank those involved for the support they give to veterans and their families.
The Royal British Legion does a great deal for the Armed Forces community. In Okehampton, as across the country, that work carries on all year round, not only in the weeks leading up to Remembrance.
Sir Mel received a warm welcome from everyone at the branch.
The MP said: "It is always special to visit the Royal British Legion. They do so much to support our veterans and their families. At this time of year our thoughts turn to Remembrance. But the Legion's support for veterans and their families is not just for November. It is there all year round, and that is what makes it so valuable to our Armed Forces community. Visits like this are a reminder of how much we owe to those who have served, and to the people who look after them. My thanks to everyone at the Okehampton branch for such a warm welcome, and for all they do, all year round, for our Armed Forces community."
Bob Tolley, the manager of the Okehampton branch of the Royal British Legion, said: “Mel’s visit was a great chance to get to know the Okehampton organisation and what we do for local residents and veterans. It was also productive in getting to know how we operate as a charity. We look forward to a continued relationship with Mel going forward.”
Sir Mel will join the town for its service of Remembrance on Sunday, November 8.
