People living with Parkinson’s in West Devon are encouraged to try a new ‘fun and engaging’ online exercise programme at home.

Moving Forward is a new monthly programme for anyone living with Parkinson’s who is inactive or new to exercise classes, following their diagnosis.

The new pilot programme runs until December, with the aim of getting more people with Parkinson’s moving together in a sociable way.

Participants will receive limited free access to Brand Inc Fitness’s online platform, which provides a wide range of exercise videos that can be accessed at home, allowing people to choose activities that suit their interests and ability.

Delivered by experienced instructor of Brand Inc Fitness, Richard Pinchen, each session focuses on areas associated with Parkinson’s and aims to get more people moving with the condition and helping people build confidence in being active.

All four sessions are fully adaptable and the movements can be done either in a standing or seated position, with participants recommended to take activities at their own pace.

Pre-registration is needed for sessions on Wednesdays 1pm-2pm on October 28, November 25 and December 16. They include improving strength, mobility, wellbeing, flexibility, mobility and ease of movement and a session on improving strength for everyday life.

Jed Parsons, of Parkinson’s UK, said: “Being physically active is important in helping people with Parkinson’s manage their condition. Getting started is a challenge for inactive people or those new to exercise.

“Moving Forward gives people a friendly, supportive and accessible way to start moving more from the comfort of their own home.

“We hope the programme helps build confidence, discover new activities and encourage continued activity.”
