A WEST Devon woman was surrounded by family and friends on Monday in celebration of her 100th birthday.

Nancy Harmer, who lives at Ravenscroft Nursing Home in Yelverton, was treated to a drinks party and a delicious cake to celebrate the milestone.

Nancy was born in Wales and spent some of her youth in Essex. During world war two she drove a munitions truck before she and her husband, Len Harmer, moved to Yelverton where they ran Yelverton Garage. After running the garage for a number of years the couple bought the business.

They were keen golfers and Nancy was a member of Tavistock and Yelverton Golf Clubs.

Nancy later retired and sold the business in the early 1980s.

She was joined at the party by her daughter, Patricia Diness and Patricia's husband, David, and her grand-daughter, Rachael Diness-Tourtellott, and Rachel's husband, Mark, as well as a number of friends.
