DOLTON and District Twinning Association has strengthened its links with the continent after signing a twinning charter with a German village.

The association welcomed 53 representatives from Hillerse, Lower Saxony at the weekend for the charter signing ceremony and a tour around the area.

Dolton has been twinned with the French village of Amfreville for almost 20 years but wanted to create this new link to foster friendships and learn about another country.

Dolton and District Twinning Association secretary Andrew Bass said Amfreville twinned with Hillerse some time ago and wanted their British neighbours to join with them which they were delighted to do.

The Charter was signed at Merton Village Hall with Twinning chairman Philip Griffiths, Bergermeister of Hillerse Detlef Tanke, Hillers twinning chairman Uli Loehr, Amfreville twinning chairlady Severine Devauriex and chairman of Dolton Parish Souncil, John Lock. After the official signing there was entertainment provided by local Morris Dancers.
