THE deadline is looming for this year's West Devon Mayoral Awards which aim to thank the borough's unsung heroes and heroines.

The awards are held annually to recognise people who have done something particularly noteworthy within the borough or who have enhanced the reputation of the borough on the national stage.

For the second year running, there are three categories for nominations:

l a young person under the age of 18;

l an organisation or business in the Borough or a person aged 18 years or over:

l and an individual or group who have made a significant contribution to the conservation and protection of the natural environment of West Devon.

All over West Devon there are people who are working to make things better for the Borough and its community. Now is the time to recognise their efforts by nominating them for the West Devon Mayoral Awards 2010.

Mayor of West Devon Cllr Alison Clish-Green will lead the judges this year.

She said: 'After the gloom of the recession and the coldest prolonged winter weather for 30 years, now let's look forward to celebrating our local heroes in the spring.

'Please support this initiative and send in the name of your unsung hero.'

Last year's awards went to national youth swimmer Alex Wooldridge, volunteer Anita Prosser, and Keith Webber, who had the honour of being the first winner of the 'Green' category.

Nomination forms are available from the reception of the council's Kilworthy Park offices, the Okehampton Customer Services Centre at St James Street or from Janet Rosser, mayor's secretary, on 01822 813629.
