TAVISTOCK’S Heritage Open Days continues with many more free events for all, starting tomorrow (Friday).

The Heritage Open Days provide a varied and entertaining programme of free events for people of all ages with family events, from Friday, September 14 to Sunday, September 16.

The event celebrates local places and stories and opens the doors to familiar and hidden historic sites and buildings, completely free of charge.

All participating organisations and events are officially registered as part of the national Heritage Open Days, the country’s largest festival of history and culture. Tavistock Heritage Open Days is co-ordinated by a steering group of interested individuals and local community organisations representing the arts and culture, churches, education, heritage and businesses.

Events include guided walks around Tavistock, Mount Kelly school and St Eustachius’ Church, as well as other places, The Edge Heritage Fayre and various lectures.

Alongside the Heritage Open Days, Tavistock parish church will be holding a weekend of patronal festival celebrations. This year marks the 700th anniversary of St Eustachius’ Church and the annual festival will honour its patron, St Eustachius, a Roman general in the second century, who became a Christian.

The weekend will see illustrated talks, a sung eucharist and a festival choral evensong among other events.

The Very Rev Dr Christopher Hardwick said: ‘Our 700th anniversary year continues to be celebrated by a wide and varied range of worship, concerts and special events. I thoroughly recommend the Medieval fayre, church tour, Heritage Day lectures and the special services to be held at the weekend.

‘There is something for everyone to enjoy. Please do come along and support these patronal celebrations if you are able to do so.’
