SIXTEEN local charities will be displaying a variety of goods at the Tavistock Charity Bonanza on June 29.

Organised by the Tavistock Area Support Services (TASS), the sale will be from 9am to 4.30pm with free admission and will include charities that help people who are suffering from long term illness, animal welfare groups and local church and hospital support groups.

A large stock of antiquarian books and rare music will be for sale and among the 'special items' will be signed works by Launceston poet Charles Causley, books from the Coronation in 1953, including a rare ribbon-bound programme detailing events on the day in Okehampton, plus early books on the Suffragette Movement, the Brontës and a wonderful compendium of Sherlock Holmes mysteries.

The 'local history' section has been enhanced by the donation of a Methodist hymn book that is inscribed to the ministers of the (since demolished) Tavistock Wesley Church and a collection of rare books and papers covering mining in Devon and Cornwall.
