ONE week after the inauguration service at Blackburn Cathedral of his boss, bishop's chaplain Rev Toby Webber returned to the same cathedral, this time for his own wedding.
It has been a whirlwind few weeks for Toby, from Chagford, who is the right hand man to Lancashire's new bishop, Rt Rev Julian Henderson. Toby runs his office at Bishop's House near Ribchester. Since the announcement Rt Rev Henderson would become bishop, Toby has had an important role to play in preparing for his arrival.
But last week the time came for personal focus, as on Saturday he got married to Rebecca Crawshaw, who has been very understanding of Toby's absences during preparations for their own big day.
The couple were married by Rt Rev John Goddard, Bishop of Burnley. Toby has worked very closely with the Bishop John in the past year while he fulfilled the role of acting Bishop of Blackburn during the recent vacancy. The preacher at the service was the Rev Canon Richard Hunt, until recently Rector of St Paul's, Chichester, which is Rebecca's home church.
Toby and Rebecca met on a Christian holiday in Switzerland. Toby has been bishop's chaplain since 2012 and before that he was priest in charge of St Aidan's in Bamber Bridge, St Leonard's in Walton le Dale and St Leonard's Samlesbury. He was ordained in 2002 and was first a curate at St Laurence's Church in Chorley.
Rev Webber said: 'Rebecca and I have been looking forward to our wedding with great excitement, and to celebrating our special day with many dear friends and family.
'We are very grateful to have found each other. We are so happy to be able to pledge to love, comfort, honour and protect each other every day of our lives, all within the overarching love of God, our heavenly Father.
'This month is very much a time of new beginnings – last week I was with the new Bishop of Blackburn at the inauguration of his ministry. This week Rebecca and I were back in the very same cathedral church to begin our married life together.'
