THE Devon Games to Inspire, being held in Okehampton this June, will offer youngsters the chance to take part in an activity they may not have considered before.
Youngsters at the prestigious sporting event will get the chance to try their hand at fly fishing, thanks to the Devon Angling Development Forum.
Set up by county angling officer for Devon and Cornwall Nick Payne, the forum aims to improve angling opportunities across the South West region.
Nick said: 'I've spent the first few months trying to get to know anglers, clubs and those in the industry in the two counties.
'My role is to increase angling participation amongst all sections of the community, to develop and enhance local coaching, increase membership and satisfaction in fishing clubs.
'I also want to provide opportunities for young talent to access high quality coaching so as to develop their potential to compete successfully at regional, national and perhaps, international level.'
The Devon Games to Inspire attracts more than 1,000 youngsters from nine council areas in Devon to take part in 15 different sports.
The event was formerly the Devon Youth Games before it became a 2012 Olympic Games Legacy event. Okehampton earned the right to host the games thanks to campaigning by OCRA. The charity co-ordinated the West Devon team for the 2011 event.
