TWO lanes of the A30 carriageway near Okehampton were closed and diversions put in force after an oil spillage last Friday morning.

The mile-long spillage from a lorry, which was later located further up the A30 awaiting recovery, occurred between Ellacott and Ebsworthy overbridges.

A diversion was set up from Stowford Cross along the old A30 while the spillage was treated by highways officials and the police.

Officers said a mechanical fault on the lorry has caused the oil leak.
