Yelverton v Civil Service

YELVERTON won the toss for the second week running and elected to bat on a good batting track. After the early loss of Wollington and skipper Degg the third wicket partnership of Carr and Vinson put on a valuable 89 run-partnership.

Following their departure in quick succession, the innings briefly stuttered with the loss of Sandell and Pennington, who had to retire hurt. However, the sixth wicket pair of Leonard and Taylor pushed the score up near to the 200 mark with a partnership of 55.

Civil Service's reply started badly with the loss of P Smith to the first ball of the innings, bowled by Carr. Easterbrook soon followed, before M Smith and M Barr steadied the innings.

The introduction of Leonard (2-29) and Treweeks (3-51) accounted for the middle order.

Despite the use of eight bowlers by skipper Degg, Yelverton were unable to prise out the last two wickets and Civil closed on 157-8.

This week Yelverton make the short trip to the Ring to take on Tavistock Seconds.
