A TAVISTOCK man has completed his challenge of a lifetime ? he successfully caught a 30lb carp. After fishing since he was four years old, Philip Smart caught the whopper at a location in Devon. Philip, 52, first went carp fishing with his father. Ever since, Philip has searched for the largest carp around. With a previous record of 20lb, Philip said: ?You can imagine my absolute delight when this big one came along. I had been fishing all day without a bite or run of any description.? Philip decided to change tactics and go surface feeding after no luck of a bite all day. He had a few left over dog biscuits which he decided to use. Within minutes things changed dramatically ? Philip caught the 30lb fish of his dreams. ?I hope very much that I do not have to wait that amount of time again, but it really was well worth it. This one definitely did not get away,? said Philip.
