POPULAR horticulturist and TV presenter Carol Klein visited The Garden House at Buckland Monachorum last Friday to plant the very first tree in a new two-acre arboretum.
The birch tree Betula Utilis 'Buckland', chosen for its glowing stem colour in winter, was planted at the entrance to the site, which is being created to mark the public garden's Golden Jubilee.
Hundreds of other trees selected from around the world will soon be planted and it is hoped to open the arboretum next year.
