NORTHLEW Silver Band Guy Fawkes Carnival went off with a bang on November 5, with the excellent costumes and roaring bonfire keeping spirits high despite the rain.
The Victory Hall was packed for the judging of the fancy dress competition, with judges Abigail Norton, Thomas Wood, and Mr and Mrs James having a tough job choosing between the excellent entries. The judges were presented with beautiful buttonholes by Erin Mortimore. Hot refreshments were laid on in the churchroom, most welcome in the autumnal weather.
Following the judging, the band, headed by Methodist minister Rev John Peak and Anglican lay reader Sandra Collier, led the band on the march from the hall to the square. The bonfire was then lit, keeping the weather at bay and providing a cheery blaze for the gathered crowd.
The members of the silver band did an excellent job organising the evening and keeping the village traditions alive.
