ENTRIES that are 'out of this world' are invited for this year's Tavistock Carnival.
Tavistock Lions Club are gearing themselves up for the event, which will take place from July 13-21 with the procession on the final day. The theme is '2001: A Space Odyssey (Out of this World)'.
The decision was taken to go ahead despite the decision by many carnivals in Devon to cancel for this year.
Glyn Johns of the Tavistock Lions Club, said: 'We are hoping to attract entries from far and wide. There are many carnival queens who haven't been able to attend the usual round of events, so we would like to encourage them to come. We hope that the foot and mouth crisis won't mean that the number of floats drops too much.
'There is transport available, so that needn't be a problem. It will be a chance to get out and enjoy yourself. The bands and majorettes have been booked — all we need now are the entries!'
Entries are free, but commercial entrants are asked to make a donation towards the cost of organising the procession.
Money raised will go to local charities, including those who enter the carnival, who will themselves receive a donation.
l If you would like to get involved, fill in the entry form below, or for further information contact Glyn Johns on 01822 615131. The closing date for entries is July 14.
